The Story So Far
I love to sew. I also love a great many other things — so much so that I'm in genuine danger of having too many interests. But sewing has always been one of my favorites. Ever since high school I've been assembling my own costumes and revamping old clothes, usually hand-sewing whatever combination of thrift store finds and old dance costumes I could make work.
In college I got my first sewing machine, and I was forever lost to the world of fabric. I started with costumes — ranging from simple to fairly elaborate — and since most were one-time wear, I never worried too much about finishes or durability. Eventually I ventured into everyday wearable clothing. Ready-to-wear never quite agreed with me, so I decided to make my own instead. That's when I started blogging, as a way to document my attempt to become a better seamstress — to turn my curvy stitches into straight seams.
During the pandemic, I sewed constantly. But once things opened back up, I found myself unemployed with unexpected free time — so I took a local woodworking class. I fell instantly in love. After a second course, I bought my own equipment and started building my own furniture.
I'm still early in that journey, mostly building things to organize my own workshop. But eventually I want to build whimsical pieces that bring fantasy themes into furniture and functional objects. That shift is exactly why I rebranded from Curvy Stitches to Spell, Stitch & Splinter — a name that reflects both crafts, and my growing desire to inject a little more whimsy into the world, one stitch and one splinter at a time.
