Lumber Rack Fail
A few months ago, I was really proud of myself for building this wood rack in my garage, finally organizing my workshop so I could build bigger projects. But today, while my husband and I were installing a new bike rack on the opposite side of the garage, all the wood suddenly came crashing down!
My husband pointed out a few issues:
1. I didn’t use wall anchors (but I drilled into the studs, so I thought it was secure).
2. I overloaded the bottom shelf compared to the others.
3. The overall design seems to have the weight too far forward from the wall, which may have added to the torque issues
Does anyone have suggestions on a better design or mounting plan? Specifically:
• Should I be using wall anchors even though I hit the studs?
• How can I better balance the weight distribution?
• Any recommendations for improving the overall stability of the rack?
I appreciate any advice you can offer!
